Ryan Sullivan
Born in 1983 in New York, NY, Sullivan received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2005, and later worked as a studio assistant for both Laura Owens and Ross Bleckner. The artist lives and works in New York.
Sullivan’s paintings reflect his dynamic and constantly-evolving mode of abstraction, with each painting standing as a physical record of its own creation – both embodying and describing material flows and physical processes.
Built from several layers of materials such as resin, fiberglass, and epoxy, Sullivan’s works have the physicality of a rock formation or graffitied concrete wall. “The whole point of having these layers is to create this object that has a physical potential of its own,” he has explained.
